Semin: I grabbed someone's stick and ran
Another awesome interview with Semin by Pavel Lysenkov of Sovetsky Sport. Unfortunately I don't have time to translate the whole article. Here are some excerpts:
I talked with Bobby Clarke, the Philadelphia Flyers legend, and he said, " Ovechkin is bull on ice! He crushes everyone under himself, goes through the players. Do you agree with Clark?
They are trying to kill him, but nothing matters for Ovechkin anyway. No one can handle him and it's hard to beat him one on one. He is huge and rolls like a train. But look by yourself (Semin nods toward the door where as, if it was ordered, appears Ovechkin along with his father, Mikhail Viktorovich.)
And what kind of animal could you be compared?
Wow, what a question! (Semin is surprised) I won't answer myself.
Uncle Misha, who would you compare me with?
Dad Ovechkin thinks and issues, "Pantera! There is something feline is Sashka's game. This is how he scored a goal against Philadelphia, crept in and scored."
Alexander, in general you give the impression of imperturbable man.
But why to pay an attention when they are trying to provoke you? It is clear why they are doing it, to make a player mad and earn a power play. For me all this is a baby talk.
When was Alexander Semin mad the last time? Not necessarily in the game, maybe in a real life?
Even when I had a fight with Rangers' Marc Staal, I was not overwhelmed by emotions... No, I am not like that. I never get mad.
Tuvanhillbilly [Japer's Rink] had translated more...
This piece below was funny...
What kind of news from the KHL are the most catchy for you? Except about Lada [former Semin's team]. Maybe melee in Chekhov?
This is a joke. Who needs it? Well, I watched the video, nothing good. Should've been just like in the NHL, one tough guy against another. Why the whole teams were fighting?
Do you remember anything like that?
Yes, I saw something like that once. It was in Krasnoyarsk. There was a game between the boys born in 1980. I was four years younger and watched the game from the stands. And then it was a melee! A bench clearing brawl, really. I only remember my friend and grabbed someone's sticks off the ice and ran. The sticks were in a short supply back then.
I can not imagine this battle in the NHL. If someone pops up from the bench, when others fight, he will receive automatic disqualification for 10 games. Then it will be reviewed and it could be even more.
You've recently extended the contract with Washington for another year. After 2010/11 you'll be unrestricted free agent. Is there an option that you could return to the KHL? Maybe one percent chance?
I won't tell you. Why disturb people? I will play for Capitals another year and a half. I am happy with everything in Washington. And as more things will come, no one knows what will happen...
