Today is Wednesday
After 1st period:
"Heroes are made and goats are talked about on TSN on the highlights for the next year."
~ Bruce Boudreau
Great first period and then a stupid penalty by Green. Boudreau should sit him, he is nothing but disaster lately.
Is it the end? It's the beginning of the end. I can see the overtime where Caps will lose the series. The good thing is: I am not an Oracle. :-)
Ovi's stats:
TOT 06:10, SHF 8, AVG 00:46, EV 06:10, SHOTS 1, A/B 2, HT 5, TK 1
After 2nd period:
"Whoa, we can be done by Wednesday of next week..."
~ Bruce Boudreau
Another bonehead play by Green. Ovi could've score the goal in the last minute of the 2nd. He didn't. Caps look like a lost team there.
TOT 13:40, SHF 16, AVG 00:51, PP 03:29, EV 10:11, S 4, A/B 6, HT 5, GV 1, TK 1
Capitals Insider (Gene Wang):
Playing in a Game 7 they didn't expect to be in, the Capitals came out firing before a frenzied crowd that included Vice President Joe Biden, whose last major sporting event was the women's Final Four in Houston earlier this month
3rd period is over:
"Whoa, we can be done by Wednesday of next week..."
~ Bruce Boudreau
Today is Wednesday.
C'mon, Canadiens, can you show the same game vs. Pens? Probably not.

Has Green done ANYTHING positive or useful for his team this series? The only reason I can see why he's still in the lineup is he must be blackmailing Coach BB about something huge, otherwise he would have been a healthy scratch long ago.
Dear hockey gods, please let this not be the beginning of the end.
Sidney Crosby is the best player in the world.
Beating the Penguins will be much more difficult because they have an actual coach.
Ovi has been playing hurt. I can't explain it any other way. If he had been 100% he would have owned the Habs in this series.
well how bout ovi now?
call when you win something -anything.
I feel so empty and at a loss for words right now. The season of high hopes and expectations has evaporated into an abyss of failure, grief and despair. I'm hurting big time now, and I know it's going to sting for a long long time.
I don't doubt Ovie has been playing hurt, but I don't think it's just physical. He hasn't been the same player, he got off his game, after the Olympics flameout and then even more dramatically after the Campbell hit and suspension. Hockey is as much a mental/psychological game as it is physical, and I can't shake the idea that Ovie's mind and spirit got messed up big time.
Green wasn't that bad this game -- his cross checking penalty yes. But the second goal wasn't his fault. Carlson needed to come back and cover his man. Green couldn't cover both players.
It was a great series! Though any Pittsburgh players must be nervous. If Washington couldn't score -- who can?
Why are there so many Pens trolls here? Move along ...
Also, I have to agree with BobbyG, very well articulated. We had high hopes and we'll just hope for better next year.
Recipe for failure:
Bonehead hockey and too many Russians. Caps are toast.

I commented earlier that Ovi had to have been playing hurt - wrong - Boudreau stated that he was "healthy" at the post-game press conference.
BobbyG is right - something changed in Ovi's spirit this year. I have no doubt that he will regroup this off season and come back stronger than ever.
The worst thing will be if Halak fizzles against the Pens and it is interpreted by the pundits as a vindication of Crosby over Ovechkin. I will be cheering for the Habs in the next round, as hard as that will be to do.
This loss is on the Caps, not on Ovie, so the haters can just depart. Kicking players and fans when they're down is pathetic and classless.
As for Ovie, he needs time to mentally rest and recharge. Despite his awesome stats this year, it has been a hellish season for him with many stresses and disappointments piling up. Unfortunately, I think he'll be off to the World Championships as soon as Russia crooks its finger at him. He, as Leonsis mentioned recently, needs to learn when to say "no" and put his wellbeing first. I think this is one of those times. He needs to get away from hockey and the media for a while - refresh - then get ready for the next season.
Ovie, I know you take responsibility for the team's loss, as the captain and face of the franchise, but this ouster is not your fault. I hope you realize that.
You and the Caps have given fans many great moments and new milestones this year. Thank you for that. Although there are still areas that need improvement on this still developing team, you and the Caps have much to be proud of; don't lose sight of that.
Your fans believe in you and support you!
Good thing that Olympics are happening once in 4 years. This year's Olympics broke Ovi's spirit, he was never the same and lost everything, individual trophies and team's playoffs.
If the same is gonna happen in Sochi, I don't want him to go there.
Anyhow, until Boudreau will install some kind of trap system, kiss goodbye to playoff hopes.
