Ovechkin started training for 2011 in Sochi-2014 jersey
Zherdev:
"In the evening smog tends to disappear, but it's getting worse in the morning. Even inside air conditioned arena you can smell the smoke. It's not as bad as outside, but still the smoke is everywhere. There are no other options anyway. I am training with Ovechkin, Kovalchuk will join, Suglobov, Zevakin."

Ovi & Co. started on-ice pre-season training at the rink on Rublevsky highway. A lot of fans came to see the world hockey stars and have surrounded the glass fencing all over the perimeter.
The skill of the players evoked strong emotions in the audience. One could hear a loud sigh, then applause and the admiring whispers.
The most interesting was the final part of training. The hockey players, divided into two teams, staged a thrilling shootout competition.
Not surprisingly the most accurate was Ovechkin. The forward not only scored more often than others, but also showed the skill or evoked laughter with silly antics.
When Ovie would miss, he'd toss the stick in the air that would crash on the ice before being picked up by the owner.
Sasha didn't score just a couple of times, unlike his fellow teammates who missed more often. Zherdev, after he missed several times, got frustrated and went to the bench not concealing his fatigue. The new Philadelphia Flyers player Nikolai Zherdev could not avoid the criticism from Alexander Ovechkin.
"Nicky, come on, come on out to shoot! Let's play one more time!" called Alex Ovechkin tired Zherdev with a cheerful voice.
"Well, I want to eat! I've had enough of shootouts!" mumbled in response disgruntled Nicholai, but still came back to the ice.
The irrepressible Ovechkin, in contrast to Nicholai, could not wait quietly for his turn. Alex was always finding things to do in the middle of the rink, he'd perform some plain stretching exercises, then just lay on the ice, then was trying to saddle the stick or cursed loudly while giving an advice to less experienced players.
That's Ovi!

Aww! I love Ovie. Why am I not surprised to see him laying on the ice? He looked pretty good though, nice to hear him helping out the other guys too!
On ice Ovie is on the ice! EEP!
Can't wait to see him on the ice (in any position) here in Washington DC. Come on October!
Ovie certainly has a knack for promoting things.
As much as I love Ovie... wear your helmet. Why are you trying to stand out when you already a superstar?
Ovie looks in better shape going into this season than he has in previous seasons. Hopefully this signals good things for the coming season. OMG I miss hockey!
Yeah, I think you're right. He looks lighter, maybe his explosiveness will be back like in his rookie year. I can't wait for him to plaster Talbot all over the boards.
Put the belt on
Wear the helmet
Don't wear female streaking t-shirt
...
:-)
I agree about the fitness. It doesn't look like he's put on as much weight in the off season as he's done in the past.
I am worried that the weeks of heavy smoke might have taken time away from his outdoor fitness regimen. In previous summers he has pulled weights across a field and did some form of cross-country running for strength and stamina.
I second what everyone said about how great and fit Ovie looks. I especially second both TJ's posts. Let's hope lighter Ovie translates to more explosive Ovie. And yes, to repeat @Ovie: wear your seat belt and a helmet. The freakin' streakin' shirt can stay or go, just don't get so attached to the thing it becomes your signature wardrobe piece LOL.
Ovie is wearing different gloves. That's strange because he wore his caps gloves during the Olympics and World Championships. He even wore those same caps gloves when he was on the ice with Dynamo recently. Apparently I have too much free time to notice stuff like this.
Here is Ovie bringing his caps gloves to the World Championship in Germany:

bonus is that you get to Ovie and Semin both wearing ripped jeans, with their matching luggage (how do they not mix them up in the hotel room?), and Ovie in his reds caps hat before he retired it for the summer.
not Uglobov - Suglobov
Love the caps and Ovie so much, I named my dog after Ovie. He can do all sorts of tricks. Everyone in the neighborhood yells out "OVIE" every time they see us. We sit in front of the TV and I shout for a goal and Ovie nods his head. What a great life.
If you want, send me OVIE's pic and I'll post it.
Thanks for Suglobov, corrected it.
I was referring to the pic of OVIE dog, sorry. A dog named after Ovechkin.
