Ovechkin: "Yeah, its first day in training camp" (video)
Ovi: "Yeah, I've missed hockey."
More from Katie Carrera, Capitals Insider, Sept. 18, 2010:
Alex Ovechkin, who appeared a little winded at the end of the session, spoke to the media after Group A's skate about the expectations facing the Capitals this season.
"You know, this is, I think, our problem. Everybody expects we're going to beat everybody and win. Let's just play one game and then another one. We'll see what's going to happen. ... We feel we have a pretty good team, and it doesn't matter what somebody says about us. We're ready for a fight, and we're ready for a battle."
The team's training camp t-shirt should give a pretty good idea of the Capitals' attitude this season. The back reads: "Stay angry. Believe in yourselves."

Warning. Warning.
BobbyG cover your eyes and plug your ears. Go, "LA LA LA! Can't hear you! LA LA LA!!!!"
For those who care and want the details...
Valeria was at practice today. I didn't notice her until I saw her go to the Caps store with the man I usually see shepherding Ovie's friends and gfs around when Papa Ovie isn't around.
Anyway, her features aren't as defined as they are in her photos, the lips are the most noticeable feature and in person she has a completely different shaped nose then I thought she had. Her face is softer, with a bit of gentleness, and she looks much, much younger in person. In photos I thought she looked 22-25, but face-to-face she looks 16-20.
She is also extremely thin, thinner than in the photos. I'm size 2 petite and 8 inches shorter, but her ankles looked like my wrists. She doesn't need a cheeseburger, she needs a truckload of them, and yet, her weight didn't look unhealthy.
She was dressed in designer duds, nicely dressed but not overdone - skinny jeans, hightop sneakers, short jacket, Coach bag and Coach diamond earings. Her hair was in a ponytail held by a scrunchie and (refreshingly) she continues to prefer a natural face (make-up free as far as I could tell).
Personality-wise, she seems nice with a soft voice speaking passable English. Not a trace of arrogance unlike the most recent gf. Since she was buying gifts to send/take back to her nephew, I'd also say that she is family oriented.
@O: thanks for the warning, but none is needed. I've come to terms with balancing my fantasy life with Ovie's real life and I'm very comfortable with it. I've said before and I repeat again, all I wish for Ovie is success and happiness in his professional and personal life. He deserves it, as do we all. A happy Ovie will be a more effective hockey player IMO, and that's good news for Caps AND Ovie fans.
It's refreshing to read your report that Valeria seems so unlike the way she has been described in the awful Russian tabloids and elsewhere. I respect Ovie even more for taking the high ground and not caving in to the rumors and gossip. Maybe here in the States they have a better chance to make their relationship work. If she is genuine and makes Ovie happy, I will celebrate with them and wish them all the best in the future.
If I may ask, who is the most recent gf you say was more arrogant? How did you get close enough to Valeria to detect her speaking voice and passable English? As I said earlier, maybe here in the States, away from the prying eyes of the Russian tabloids and paparazzi, she and Ovie can have a better chance to develop their relationship.
I don't know the name of the most recent previous gf, so I'd say she is a "normal" person. She was visiting during the second half of the season.
As for Valeria's voice, she and the man were exchanging comments as they looked at Caps and Ovechkin wear items in the store. I was "circulating".
As for Ovie being an effective hockey player, he looked gassed half way through practice. Not good.
@O: thanks for the reply. Hopefully Ovie will not be "gassed" after practice after a few more sessions. I hope his change in trainers will ultimately benefit his conditioning and not be an obstacle. I still don't quite fully understand why Ovie made the change.
Since Moscow Dynamo collapsed Dmitri Kapitonov was laid off. And he naturally went back to St. Petersburgh where he is from. He and his bro were immediately hired by SKA. I guess Ovi didn't want to follow him to St. Peters, so he used Kovi's fitness coach. Ovi didn't even want to leave Moscow for Sweden, he is a homer. :-)
Hey, maybe he didn't want to leave VS alone :-)
Im glad Valeria has made an appearance! For some reason, I really like her for him. I was noticing the other day that Ovi had only one chain on (after having sported 2 for a while), and I thought that meant that she must still have the other one... :-)
TJ maybe Ovie isn't a homer but a man in love and didn't want to leave Valeria. I am sure the smoke in Moscow didn't help either. I hope Ovie is able to get in shape quickly. I watched some video from practice today and he didn't look good.
I'm going to practice tomorrow morning so I'll looking around for Valeria.
@TJ: thanks for setting me straight about Ovie's change of trainers. Hopefully he'll be in playing shape very soon.
@Steph,
Ovie has been switching between one and two chains since before this gf, so I don't see it as an indication of anything.
@AB,
Ovie's visitors tend to sit in the bleachers near the 1st floor entrance a few rows up from the ice. We'll see if she can handle the scrutiny of people making certain she is appropriate for Ovie. ;)
@0 I didn't see your comment until now, thanks for the info, I'll know where to look next time. I came in the second floor entrance and went down to the far end so I was pretty far from their spot. I did see Valeria though when I walked outside of Kettler. It was so hot out and I was wearing 3 layers, so I stopped right near her to remove my caps jersey and t-shirt and watch her at the same time. I was left with my redskins t-shirt on and then headed to the skins game and saw some caps players there!
