Great Eight stands tall, even on one knee

Captain Ovechkin leads the team again. Here's Ovechkin's game tying goal vs. Islanders.

This is his 4th goal of the season and 400th game in the NHL.

Roloson is very good vs. Ovechkin, but this time he was fooled. Ovi's positioning and all movements were showing that he was going to pass to Mike Knuble #22. You can see after the goal how Roloson raises his head and rolls up his eyes in disbelief.

And then awesome play in D, I think last season Ovi didn't progress at all in this area. Hopefully this season he'll pay more attention to D.

Joe B.: "Just a few moments ago Great Eight was forced to play D, and he stands tall, even on one knee"

Ovechkin leads the NHL in points(7) and goals(4).

Ovi's stats:
1 goal, 1 assist, +1, total ice 21:31, 22 shifts, average shift 00:58 (awesome!), PP 05:25, even 16:06, 3 shots on goal, 3 attempts blocked, 2 missed, 1 hit, 3 giveaways, 3 takeaways

Unlike the first couple of games Ovi looked very fresh throughout the game. That's a very good sign. And remember they all need to peak in the spring, not now.

Ovi speaks after the game vs. Islanders:

washcaps: Ovechkin, Backstrom and Neuvirth on the 2-1 win over NYI

AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Nicklas Backstrom deflected in Alex Ovechkin's drive from the point on a power play with 3:39 left, lifting the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.

With New York's Blake Comeau off for roughing, Ovechkin whistled a shot from long range that Backstrom tipped past goalie Dwayne Roloson for his first goal of the season and Washington's third straight victory.

Ovechkin also scored for Washington. It was his third straight game with a goal.

Ovie looked much stronger tonight, made better decisions with and without the puck, and in general looked more like the Ovie we have come to expect to see--more dominant and in control of the game, with his head, heart, and energy in the right place. Yes, it's early with a very long season ahead, but the signs are there that Ovie is here and at or very near 100% in the game.

@BobbyG: In the beginning I was getting a little worried but once they returned order to chaos and put Ovi and Nick back together, the universe said it's all good and the goals came as they should :-)

I love DJ!

Awww, they're so cute together. Nicky will always be the only important blond in Ovie's life, and that's the way it should be.

Neuvy deserves a ton of credit for these wins. He's been one of the most consistent Caps on the ice for each game. He deserves a bit of rest.

The defense needs its dinged up players back soon. Erskine and Slone are best when used sparingly.

The team will need to remember wins like these and bring them to the playoffs.

And a shoutout to DJ Brett, the man of many talents!

Forgot to mention, I love Hendricks's reaction on the bench after the Nicky redirect.

@TJ: totally off topic. New contest, what should the guys dress up as for Halloween.

I think Ovi, Nicky and Knuble should be the Powerpuff girls and Crosby can be Mojo Jojo ;-)

@bwitch,

All this talk of costumes reminds me of a Red Hot Chili Pepper story: Years ago, Chad and John went to a Pimp & Ho party. One dressed as a pimple, the other as a garden hoe. :D
