The blog is back and Ovechkin is back scoring

I swear no Ovechkin's voodoo dolls were used while the blog went on hiatus. Ovechkin is back, we are back, but under the limited capacity till Christmas. Sorry, folks, the daily job is what you gotta do, the blog can't feed you. If you want to donate $1 to show that you still want to read this blog, the donate button is at the bottom.

Oh TJ, I missed you and this blog! Welcome back!

Yes Ovie is back to scoring, but I'm not too thrilled that the Caps have lost the past 2 games when he did score, 3 straight overall. I said this elsewhere: if I had to choose I'd rather Ovie get only assists if the Caps keep winning rather than see him score in games the Caps lose.

Hopefully Ovie scoring goals and the Caps winning games will occur simultaneously soon. I'd also like to see the Caps not blow 4-1 leads they had going into the 3rd period as they did tonight against...the Toronto Maple Leafs? Give me a break. This is unacceptable for a team that hopes to go deep into the playoffs this year.

Don't worry, BobbyG. Playoffs is all that matters. Caps and Ovi's goal is playoffs, who cares about trophies anymore?

Now it's more for Bruce to motivate the team during regular season, hopefully he still has the leverage to do so. Anyhow, I don't care about regular season anymore. If they keep losing like Flyers last year and then end up in the finals... that's what I am looking for...

Go Caps!

Welcome back, TJ. We missed you. (But Ovi's line needs to learn how to play defense again. That blown 3rd period lead is unacceptable.)

TJ, I'm not worried exactly, just overly concerned about some bad patterns of play I see in this Caps team. That's why I can't dismiss the importance of the regular season.

I'm not interested in Ovie winning trophies either--unless it's the Conn Smythe trophy as MVP of the Stanley Cup Champions Capitals. The point I tried to make is, I'd rather he get more assists than goals as long as the Caps win. Scoring goals in games the Caps lose, games in which they had a 3 goal lead going into the third period, are essentially meaningless. It speaks to the mindset of the team, a team Ovie leads.

Unfortunately, the Caps show signs of repeating the same bad habits that got them into trouble vs. the Canadiens last April. I'm talking about their tendency to underestimate their opponent, about not having the killer instinct to finish off lesser teams. That's why the regular season is important to the Caps--never mind what the Flyers did--because the Caps need to develop good habits, not let their unnerving bad habits grow and fester. Otherwise they are in danger of repeating their pattern of early playoff exits.
