Ovechkin talks after overtime loss

washcaps: POST VIDEO: Ovi, Hendricks, Holtby and Beagle on the OT loss

It was a good game, Caps played really well, unfortunately Rangers played as well too.

Braden Holtby looked a bit tired in shootout.

Ovi was really good, Marcus Johansson looked really good, I think he has more potential than Backstrom. And what can you say, Hendricks was shining again, what a good acquisition for Caps! Two goals, one in the game, another in shootout, he needs to set up a shootout clinic. :-)

Ovi: Sometimes we play too cute...

Indeed. On that PP Ovi went around two (!) Rangers' players and gave a bad pass back... ugh...

TJ, I don't think we were watching the same game or the same players. Last night's "effort" by the Caps, if you can call it that, was underwhelming. They looked flat and uninspired with no carryover of momentum at all from the Leafs game two nights ago IMO.

Where has the team's offense gone? When Matt Hendricks is the lone goal scorer and the team collectively gets off an anemic 17 SOG through regulation, you know they have problems. And whatever mental block Coach Boudreau has keeping Ovie on the point for the power play is as frustrating as it is incomprehensible. Sticking with a plan that goes nowhere is beyond stubbornness, it’s an example of setting up the team to fail.

And as for Ovie…after his hat trick performance against the Leafs two nights ago, I was ready to proclaim him as ready to bust loose and perform as we know he is capable of. Last night he was inconsistent as hell, at times showing flashes of brilliance only to be offset by taking bad penalties and giving up the puck. I don’t know what’s wrong with him, if it’s a physical or mental problem, but something isn’t right. And unless and until he gets things right again, it’s going to be an up and down ride for him and the Caps for the rest of the season IMO.

@BobbyG,
Let's agree to disagree, :-)
I enjoyed the game, enjoyed how Caps and Ovi played. Ranjas are not some team from the bottom like Islanders.

So I am asking you, if Ranjas wouldn't score that fluky goal, what would you say? Just be honest. :)

OK TJ, I'll be honest. If Gaborik hadn't scored I'd still think the Caps were flat and uninspired, still think Ovie was inconsistent. I'd still stand by my original assessment about the anemic SOG total, and Ovie's hot and cold play. In the video you posted, Ovie says "Sometimes we just play too cute" and he was one of the most guilty offenders. I saw him cough up the puck trying to get fancy, saw him pass when he clearly had a shot. GRRRRR!

I assume the Rangers, trailing by one goal, would have pulled their goalie, with unknown results. If the Caps held on to win 1-0 or scored an EN, I'd say they were damn lucky, thanks to Holtby's heroics, to escape with a win. Lucky, not good. However, it's also possible the Rangers could have scored the tying goal with the extra skater. The stage would have been set for the same OT and SO result.

So yes, we'll have to agree to disagree. :)
