Alex Semin on the radar

Our field reporter Emily has some news for you, Alex Semin fans!
On August 13 Alexander Semin will present the winner of the project "Name the ice arena!" with a hockey stick. The stick is autographed by Alexander Semin and Alexander Ovechkin.Reporting live,
The hockey arena built in Krasnoyarsk will be named "Arena.North". The name was chosen by the resident of Dnipropetrovsk Ekaterina Kovaleva who will fly to Krasnoyarsk on this occasion.
As it turned out, Ekaterina had never been in Krasnoyarsk, but a couple of years ago met the hockey player Alexander Semin and learned from him about the city on the Yenisei River. She also didn't know at that time who Alexander Semin was.
This is Emily
Now back in the studio...
Where do you think they met? Turkey or Washington, DC?
We need live pictures of Alex Semin from that event. Please have your camera ready, Emily!!

Thank you so much for the news :)
I wonder if Ovechkin will be there.
It's funny you mention Semin now and with the article title I was expecting something different. There are of course Semin trade rumors going on and the latest one as of yesterday has Semin going to the leafs for Cody Franson, so when I saw the headline Alex Semin on the radar I thought the article would be something different. Nice change though
Wow. So profound.
@Marge: Don't believe anything until it's done, especially when Semin and/or McPhee are involved. There is currently no reason to trade him anyway. He had improved season last year, better in playoff, and Mcphee has defended him countless times- he want Semin to work out. :D
As for this post, I heard about Krasnoyarsk getting an arena last year and I'm so happy they are. It's such a big city, such a nice city- it'd be good to have a KHL team there. Really cool that Semin is being part of it, even if small part.
Oh I'm not saying I believed the trade rumor I just thought when I saw the headline this article would be about a Semin rumor. Hey Ive been a Caps fan since 1993 if I believed every rumor I'd be distraught with worry every day lol
@Marge: Thats good. I know people who actually thought McPhee was trying to get Jagr back this year, so you really never know in this day and age. I think Semin's safe for now though.
I can't wait until Worlds, see what Bill does with the team. Hopefully he'll be more fair. (And take Semin)
Wow. If I had known Arena North would have won a stick autographed by both Sashas, I would have entered the contest. Flying to Krasnoyarsk would be a problem though, it's a long way to travel. I wonder what it will cost the "winner" to fly there?
Oh yes, the Semin trade rumor mill is a cottage industry, and about as accurate and unsettling as watching your 401K and the stock market lately LOL. Seriously, I believe GM McPhee when he says he likes Semin because he scores goals. Remove Semin from the roster and the Caps have to pick up the slack somewhere. Good luck with that.
@BobbyG: There's no direct flight path to Krasnoyarsk from US/Can so you'd have to go to Moscow and get a plane from there. It's annoying. Last time I was in Krasnoyarsk I took the train from Omsk and it took a couple days. Nice ride though! It's not too expensive depending on how you go.
Semin is important not only for his goals, but he's good at making plays. I would only trade him if it was to get a different player with same offensive push- not easy to do. Even laughable to think Burke would want Semin because Semin is not a Burke player in any way but scoring. He's a lot of baggage, and he makes players talk to media(Toronto, can't help it) in ENGLISH. He had Kulemin speaking English right away, first year.
Yulina, no wonder Semin is so mercurial and mysterious. It takes days of travel by train, plane--and boat?--to get to his hometown of Krasnoyarsk. I can picture the ads in travel brochures LOL.
Seriously, you make good points about what else he brings to the table, a skillset the Caps need despite the baggage. IMO he is a key element for the Caps to realize their goal of finally winning the Stanley Cup. And if Nick Backstrom can rebound from his sub-par season, he can make Semin an even better player when they play on the same line.
well i tell you one thing fans don't know shit when it comes to the off ice workings of a hockey team. i've been eharing crazy stuff like Semin is a cancer in the dressing room, i guarentee if those mummurs were even close to being true management would not keep him.
I agree with you Marge. A lot of fans (not me) think Laich should be the captain instead of Ovie, but he's not even an A. I think there is probably a good reason why the A goes to Chimera, Nicky, Knuble, Poti, even Hannan, Arnott instead of Laich. As fans we don't know much about how the team works.
@BobbyG: haha! That's how Siberians are. It's funny, but usually true. I'm from Omsk, which isn't even that bad and I get told I'm very "Siberian". About a day to Krasnoyarsk from Omsk by transib.
By plane from the US, about 14-ish hours to Moscow and 4-ish hours to Krasnoyarsk. It's really not that bad, you'd usually spend a night or two in Moscow before going to Krasnoyarsk. Train, from Moscow takes about 3 days, a little less. Totally worth it, in my opinion. Krasnojarsk is lovely.
@BobbyG & Marge: I wasn't implying Semin is a cancer or problem at all. He's perfect for the Caps and as far as I know, he gets along with everyone and has great chemistry. I was saying, for a GM like Burke, it's not what he's looking for and in Toronto you can't hide behind language barriers with how the Media is here. Look at all the players with a kind of drama attitude(again, nothing against Semin, I love him), they don't last- Versteeg, for example got traded, Ian White, the list goes on because they didn't mesh with the Leafs atmosphere. Also why they didn't even try to get Jagr and similar UFA's.
Semin fits with the Caps, I honestly don't think he'd fit as well on any other team in the NHL. Semin, if I'm not mistaken, has said depending on the new CBA next year, he'd consider signing a longer contract. It makes sense after what happened during the lockout, he wants to be safe.
I totally agree, if they put last year behind them, Semin would have an amazing season. I'm interested to see what they do with the new players and hopefully no more injuries. Green being out hurt them a lot, since Ovi was on point during the PP because of it. Hurt his stats.
@AB: The thing with Laich, what make him more important is he's a utility player. You can put him anywhere and he's fine. He fits best 3rd line because he can be gritty and tough but he can play on top line if needed, he's even good on d. I wouldn't give him a C, but maybe an A for all he does.
Keep eyes open for Christian Hanson. I go to a lot of Marlies games last year and he had a great season. Kind of a Brooks-ish player, strong with puck, amazing eyes, can play any forward position and point, double shifts- even triple one game! McPhee even mentioned him as possible 3rd line Center.
Someone posted this, but Idon't know where from. It's Semin this weekend.
