Ovechkin's flying back on September 1st.

Ovechkin talked to Pavel Lysenkov after the press conference about the charity game on August 31st. He said that he was flying back to DC on September 1st. Here are some excerpts:
Why so early? Semin goes back to the States on September 8.
This year I've changed the preparation for the season. I have an arrangement with the Capitals fitness coach. Will arrive early to work out at the club. And also need to take care of some business.
Are you switching to a different stick manufacturer, from CCM to Bauer?
I have not decided yet. Maybe I will, maybe it will be good for my career.
Did you feel uncomfortable with your sticks last season? You even used Bauer with covered logo.
It was two years ago. My company actually did produce sticks that would break too often. And we had an agreement with CCM that until they improve their sticks I'd be playing with other company's sticks.
Have you started to advertise chocolate bars?
Well, yes. This summer I flew for a week to America. I love making commercials especially since I was invited. I suggest you to try these bars and then tell me if they are good.
After that you were in a video for the Washington Capitals web site. Everybody was amazed that Ovechkin gained weight in the off-season. You had such a belly there!
It doesn't seem like I have a belly. (Alexander points to his torso) But people started to call me immediately screaming to the phone, "What have you done? Watch the video!" I went online and gasped, "Wow, look at that!" I don't understand how it happened. My hands were swollen there as if after a week-long hangover. My abdomen, my face...
Was it a distorted picture?
Yes, that's how they shot it. And when you're sitting and slouching your belly is bulging.
The video was removed from the Washington Post site.
But still it went all over the internet.

Great pic with this post. Ovi refers to "America" again when mentioning the candy bar commercials. Wasn't it in Toronto? Maybe he means North America.
Ovie flying back on September 1 is great news. I am now completely convinced he was and still is totally committed to training to better prepare himself for this season. I'd like to know what exactly he has done so far, how much on his own and how much with a trainer in Russia. He looks fabulous in the pic, and I can't wait for training camp to start.
I think a lot of people misconstrue "America" as a singular country - referring to the USA. The US is the United States OF America. Most call it the US or "The States" for short. America is actually two continents; North and South but most people refer to North America as simply America which includes Canada and Mexico among many others.
Poor Ovi though, seeing that video and being mortified. I probably would have felt the same. He seems to have gotten into much better shape so I didn't read much into it. Maybe he will be more self conscious about how he sits on camera. I know that I often sit with my stomach more pooched out when I'm wearing a hoodie or at a tall table eating but if I'm in a bikini I'm more self aware of how I look and make sure I sit up straight or at least keep the abs tight if I'm slouched over. LOL.
@mkat Ovi flew in and out of DC on his trip to North America. Besides DC, he was in Toronto, Boston, Denver, and wherever else he went. So I think him saying America is fine because he flew from Moscow to DC and then DC back to Moscow.
@ JP
(I am disregaring the context of Ovi's quote to say:)
America is not only the name of the continents it is also the name of the country. "United States" although used like a name, and it is part of the formal name, is really a descriptor = the country of America is made up of united states.
During the first half of the country's history, "united states" was sometimes capitalized and sometimes not because state-centric identity was so strong. After the Civil War, the sense of nation grew stronger and "United States" has been consistently capitalized since then.
Calling people from the USA "Americans" is accurate no matter what Latin Americans (and others on these continents) say. Anyone who argues that it is not, examine what you call people from Mexico. You call them Mexicans, right? Yet look at the formal name for the country, uh oh, "Estados Unidos" (United States) is present. Are you going to argue that these people are not Mexicans? Didn't think so, so stop the fallacy that people from the USA are not Americans. By right of their country's name they are.
People from the country of America are Americans and people from the American continents are American. The debate should have died long ago.
I love this picture of Ovi. He looks happy. Plus, there is a whisper of facial hair (dont tell Gillette... :)
I didn't say people from USA wasn't American. I didn't say ANYTHING about Americans. So I don't understand why you felt the need to attack me. Maybe you should re-read what I actually wrote because at the end of your post you pretty much reiterated what I said. Even though Ovi was in Canada he was in America the continent. (or at the very least had to fly to America the country to get to Toronto) I was simply stating that he was correct. Maybe I should have been completely literal in my original statement that some people misconstrue America as ONLY a country.
You shouldn't drink so early in the day hon. It obviously impairs your ability to read.
