Ovechkin's Mr. Big Deal videos

...Ladies... LOL.

Mr. Big Deal nunchucks... ahaha

There will be total 7 of Alex Ovechkin Mr. Big Deal commercials, reports James Mirtle via Globe&Mail.

Matthew Scianitti, Aug 22, 2011, The National Post, Canada:

Alex Ovechkin cannot act. What do you expect? The man is a hockey superstar, not the Old Spice guy.

But, strangely, his commercials are so hilarious. It is the way his rich accent swallows his lines as he moves around like a confused kindergartner in a holiday pageant.

And then there is the grin — devilish with the missing tooth— like he is telling you, ‘I can score goals and sell you stuff without trying. No problem! Because I’m Alexander the Great and I’m AWESOME.’

Well at least in this candy bar ad we get more of Ovie than the disembodied head in his CCM commercials LOL. It's Mr. Big meets Chronicles of Narnia with the portal concept. I guess when Ovie said he was going to do things differently he also meant moving from low culture to high culture. :)

And as for Ovie himself, I would so like to make the impossible possible. I guess that means I'm a big deal like he is LOL.

BTW, Ovie is an excellent choice as Mr. Big. There are, after all, multiple meanings to the term THE GREAT 8. :)

Ha, the Nunchucks video wasn't posted when I commented earlier. What do you suppose was up with that? The martial arts part of me is very intrigued. I hope there's a longer video with this concept developed further.

Ovie swinging nunchucks...it's in the same category as his tabata ropes video...rowwrrrr :)

@BobbyG: Big spirit, check; Big goals, check; Big hopes, check; Big personality, check; Big eyes, check; Big body, check; Big... Ahem, we'll need some proof before we go further :P

I hope more comes from that. I agree. He looks...nice. :P

Nunchucks only eight seconds?? Enough to make me crack up... :)

@Yulina: have you seen the HBO 24/7 show? There's a scene with Ovie in his bathroom shaving. He removes his towel and you get a very brief hint of the proof you asked for. :)

I should have put an LOL and huge smiley after my previous comment comparing Ovie's Nunchucks video to his tabata rope video. These 2 spots couldn't be more different. But I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the 7 video ads. I suppose this is why Ovie was in Toronto for a video shoot a while ago, during his whirlwind North America tour? However I disagree with Jim Mirtle's statement that we would be sick of them by the time the season starts. Actually I think the videos will help us Ovie/hockey starved fans get through these last few weeks of summer before training camp. :)

Ovie's Nunchucks...this evokes a mental image with a very naughty ring to it LOL.

@BobbyG: Oddly enough I haven't yet seen it. Honestly, Siberians have the worst timing in the world. I was visiting family in Omsk from mid-December to after Russian Christmas and missed the whole thing!

I have a friend who I was supposed to borrow it off of, but I forgot about it and now he's in Russia!(I told you, horrible timing!) Is it on DVD? maybe I'll just buy it. I've heard it's worth owning.

I found the CCM ads a little irratating after a while and not because of Ovi. These seem a lot better, although still cheesey as hell. You should watch Russian tv ads... I suppose it wouldn't be as funny if you don't understand Russian.

I wonder how long this took to film though, he threw the ball pretty well! I'm guessing more than one take. :P

@Yulina: I read on another blog somewhere the HBO 24/7 Winter Classic show was supposed to come out on DVD. But now it hasn't been mentioned in a while. Perhaps it's taking longer to come out because as someone speculated they may have to get permission because of licensing agreements for the music used during the show. If and when the DVD comes out I hope it includes extras, such as deleted scenes. If you can't wait to view all 4 episodes, they are on YouTube.

Here's the link to the YouTube video of the Ovie shaving scene. Maybe if we ask him nicely, TJ will post it. :)

@BobbyG: I hope it comes out, sounds like it'd be cool to have. I hope they have deleted scenes too. Especially since I heard they spent almost a full day at Semin's house and didn't show any of it (What the hell?). I'll probably look for them on youtube tomorrow and watch :) Will cure me of thirst for hockey, yes?

That video is... Ahem. Nice. lol! It seems his current endorsment is quite fitting for him. Ahem. He IS a big...deal, afterall. lol. Ahem. *going out to buy whole box of candy bars to enter codes*

Why does it not surprise me he has underwear like that? I think it's a prerequisite for being Russian male. I swear. LOL!

BobbyG said...

@Yulina: ha, and more LOL. Ovie in the underwear...at least he didn't have the SpongeBob SquarePants boxers on. :) Only Ovie can get away with this.

Which brings up the Matthew Scianitti article. Ovie can't act? That's not the point. It's not that he can't act, it's that he isn't acting in these commercials. He's being Ovie, and for all the reasons the author mentioned--his accent, his missing tooth, the whole package. Ovie is so natural, so AWESOME; that's why he and the ads are so hilarious the products practically sell themselves.

@BobbyG: If he had boxers on, we wouldn't get to see his...upper thigh. LOL!

I don't really like what he said either, he's paid to be himself, not an actor. :)

BobbyG said...

@Yulina: ha, we're having such a good time deconstructing Ovie's underwear LOL. BTW, I was going to say something about Ovie and...portal...but I restrained myself. I didn't want to blow up this thread on TJ's blog. :)

Yulina said...

@BobbyG: I think I see where you were going to go with that. And I like it.

His underwear need to deconstruct themselves next time they're on camera. No shame?
