Ovechkin and rapper Belyi in the video

Have you heard about Moscow traffic jams? Alex Ovechkin was 4 hours late while driving from the training facility to the shooting of his first video with rapper Sasha Belyi, reports Paparazzi.ru. Besides Ovi a lot of Russian athletes paticipated in that clip including footballer Prudnikov who is playing for Anji.
"Recently Sasha Belyi let me to listen to his song "Champion" and offered to perform one song's stanza," said Ovechkin. "We met at the studio and that's all happened. I honestly did not expect it would be so cool. I am delighted that Sasha has written a truly sporty rap. I am confident that our message will be heard. Russia has always been a strong sporting nation. We have much to be proud of: our current and future victories, more of them ahead of us."
"The main idea of this track is that every person, if he wants to, can become a champion. First of all, for himself. I think that's all the guys which I list in the recitative, who are now here on the set of our video, they are a true example to follow. I have great respect for these people. I want them to be examples for the kids, seeing how much progress can be achieved in the future, by any of them," said Sasha Belyi.
Ovechkin acknowledged that he likes the process of reading a rap, and he is a fan of rap music. Now he is seriously thinking about recording a solo album.

glad to see he is training for the season. This is why they team should not sign long term
V
@Anon: What do you mean? He's been training all summer. Look at some other posts. So he does a couple fun things in the summer? He looks better than he has in past and is going to Washington pretty early to continue training as well.
Although, I do agree with most players long term can cause problems, but I haven't honestly seen a real reason to regret Ovechkin's contract.
We've been seeing him grow as a player year after year. He's finally learned he can't do it all himself, but also he needs to play bigger role in supporting the team mentality. He's been a lot more mature this offseason, and I believe it will also come in the locker room and on ice.
Looks like at the end everyone has an Ovi smile :)
@Anonymous: what Yulina said
@Yulina: thanks for setting the record straight about Ovie, his training, and contract. I would have replied the same way as you did to Anonymous.
IMO it's time for the Ovie-bashing to end. Yes, I admit I had some concerns when Ovie said his training plans fell through. But all the evidence after that points to his really taking his offseason training very seriously. Yes, he enjoyed himself at some parties and other events. SO WHAT? He has matured and wants to assume a more involved leadership role as the Caps Captain. He, his coach, and the GM have all commented on this. How about we wait to see what he does and how he behaves as team leader once the season starts?
BTW, I've never been a fan of rap but I am intrigued about Ovie recording a solo album. The message of "Champion" seems to be a very positive one.
who else think the girl in the pictures has an extremely small waist?
Oops, I've missed something: Ovi was driving 4 hours from his training facility. Not a word what was it, probably Novogorsk. I've updated the post...
Ovi rapping... Ugh. Stick to hockey bb.
I really don't get the appeal of rap music. I like hip hop but rap is just ridiculous most of the time. 1% of rappers actually have a biting lyrical talent. The rest just come up with an unintelligent one line hook and say it over and over for 3 and half minutes to a track that, more often than not, was sampled from an actual artist. I wouldn't categorize it as a form of talent. It's a genre of music created by people who can't sing or play an instrument. Just yell/speak really fast in a monotone voice, bounce up and down like an infant learning to stand, flail your arms like a 3 year old who can't verbalize what he's feeling, don't forget to over accessorize, and you can be a rap star. smh.
I can't stop chuckling at the overalls though. I haven't seen anyone wear a pair of those in decades that wasn't riding a tractor. At least Ovi wasn't wearing his hybrid demin/sweat pants. LOL! Russian fashion is so tragic. I love it.
@BobbyG: People need to look at the whole picture, not just one aspect. Like in everything, but most don't. Fact of life, there will always be people seeing the bad and not of good.
I too was worried when his plans failed, but not too worried after how the loss seemed to make him mad. I think last year changed everyone. It seems like everyone on the team is working more seriously, wanting more.
As for rap, I usually don't like it either. There are some Ilike though, some not bad Russian rappers. I'm interested in him rapping though.
@Yulina: we're on the same page, as usual, about Ovie. :)
BTW, I just noticed in the pics, Ovie is wearing the same Steve McQueen t-shirt that he wore during the Mike Vogel interview. Yes, that one, that caused all the brouhaha about his being fat.
IMO Ovie is wearing this shirt again--and not slouching--to show the world once and for all and leaving no doubt that he is definitely in awesome shape.
I listened to Puck Daddy radio and Chesnokov was on and he said he interviewed Dmitri Kapitonov a few weeks ago. Kapitonov said Ovie is working with his brother and back on his old workout plan.
@AB,
That's very interesting. I wonder if he goes to St. Petersburg, like once a week, and then comes back to Moscow and continues on his own.
But it doesn't seem to work really well since Ovi said he would come back to DC early to work with Mark Nemish.
Yes I think what he actually said was that Ovie was working under supervision of the brother, but no specifics. Ovie needs closer supervision than what he had last summer!
Backstrom and Johansson are also coming back to DC at the same time as Ovie. Neuvy, Hendricks, Carlson, Halpern, Orlov, Galiev are already here working out together.
I have not seen any proof of him practicing harder. Only a few minor signs. He is getting older, getting injured and I feel this season will be another season when his numbers will go down.

@ negative Anonymous (v),
There has been plenty of evidence that Ovi is taking this off season seriously. He asked for feedback from the Caps' coaching staff over the summer, he has gone back to his old, successful training program, he has been seen at fewer parties and those he's been at he had hardly stayed at long enough to greet people instead of partying all night like last summer, and he is committed to returning to DC weeks before he has to report to the team.
You are either blind or determined to find fault no matter the evidence to the contrary.
Or is the "v" at the end of your post some cutsie attempt at being an anarchist?
@Tj and to add on to what AB said,
Several Caps players have said that they (much of the team) made a decision (after another untimely exit from the playoffs) to return to DC early this season instead of waiting until the "report to your team by ____" that the NHL sets. No more waiting until the last minute.
