Hunter confirms Ovechkin has lower body injury

Katie Carrera @kcarrera

Hunter said Ovechkin has a lower body injury.

@JapersRink: "Picture, thousand words, etc."

Capitals Insider:
Alex Ovechkin was on the ice for the start of the Capitals’ morning skate at Scotiabank Place in Kanata, Ontario, but only skated for roughly eight minutes before heading back into the dressing room here.

While he was on the ice, Ovechkin appeared to be testing something out. Just before he went back down the tunnel he tried to gather speed and explode through the neutral zone but after a few strides had to pull up. He skated over to the bench immediately and left the ice.

Ovechkin was seen limping after Monday’s 5-0 loss to Carolina and may have suffered an injury in that contest, during which he only played 15 minutes 43 seconds. Ovechkin absorbed a hip check by the Hurricanes’ Bryan Allen eight minutes into the second period of the game and it appeared to put strain on his left leg.

Left leg, huh? :( He was able to ride a stationary bike before going on the ice to skate. My guess is he has a Charley horse...

Wikipedia on Charley horse:
...a bruising of the quadriceps muscle of the anterior or lateral thigh, or contusion of the femur, that commonly results in a hematoma and sometimes several weeks of pain and disability.

Katie Carrera @kcarrera:
Ovechkin: "I don’t feel really good right now, we’ll see how it goes before the game."

Erin Nicks @erinnicks:
Ovechkin was whisked away after giving us that memorable quote. FWIW, he looks absolutely miserable. Dead behind the eyes.

Brent Wallace @tsn_wally:
Ovechkin out for tonight's game listed as day to day.

When it rains, it pours... :(

@directors_take:
So you make $9.0 this year & you can't afford a suit jacket without a hole?!

That's new Ovechkin clothing line, dude... The hole is there by design! :-)

'Dead behind the eyes'

What a disturbing thing to hear about Ovechkin. If that's right, if it wasn't just a bad moment or something, that is very very troubling. Ovechkin is his spirit.

He is 'dead behind the eyes' because Captain Ovechkin knows he is needed for his team and he can't do anything about it. Frustrating... This could be the end of playoff hopes...
