Alex Ovechkin wishes you Happy New Year

Alex Ovechkin @1:57:

I wish you Happy New Year, the most important to stay healthy and happy. If you don't have love, find it and root for Moscow Dynamo and Russian hockey.
Where is Nicklas Bäckström? Probably in Gävle already. And hopefully it's a reason why he skipped the game vs. CSKA.

Our blog wishes everyone a Happy New Year and a hope that Ovi and Backie will be back in the States soon (knock on wood) so that we'll root for Capitals again. :-)

Ovechkin scores another beautiful goal vs. CSKA

Dynamo lost to CSKA 2-4 in the last game of year 2013. Backstrom didn't play for rhe second game in a row. Sounds like his injury is more serious than initially reported.

KHL.ru reports that the refs sent Ovechkin "to rest" for holding the puck with his hands, although Alexander and the entire Dynamo bench vigorously protested that decision. As a result Ovechkin got mad and soon after his return from the penalty box scored a beautiful goal, beating defenseman Denis Denisov and the goalkeeper.

Ovi scores beautiful goal, starts @1:25

Ovi talked to media after the game (via SportBox.ru).

"We had more penalties. We had a great start, but couldn't finish our scoring chances and mademistakes which were used by the army team," said Ovechkin. "When I was sent to penalty box, the opponent scored the second goal. I was explained why. They said I tucked the puck and threw it forward. But we need to forget this game because of the New Year's eve. We should celebrate it well and prepare for the next games. As soon as we get out of the locker room and see our loved ones, relatives, friends, we should forget about the defeat. It's not the end of the world or something."

Ovechkin didn't notice any changes in the CSKA game with their new coach, "No changes. Just, again, they scored two goals on the power play. And power play makes a big difference in hockey. I don't think that we were less motivated. We just had to use those chances that we created, especially in the first period, when we didn't not give any opportunities for them to play. But everything happens."

Ovi was asked how he would celebrate the New Year, "In the country at the dacha, with the family. Have not celebrated the New Year in Moscow for a long time. So, I am really looking forward to this moment."

Update from Pavel Lysenkov: Ovechkin was very nervous and aggressive after the game. He did not want to talk to the media. He eventually did, to answer the questions in Russian. But he outright did not want to say a word about the lockout.

Pavel thinks the lockout is over and sez that Backstrom is already in the States according to his sources. In other news Bryzgalov quit CSKA, just like Nabokov did with SKA last year, I guess. But again, Pavel insist that it's because Bryz thinks the lockout is over.

Update from SE:
Byacheslav Butsaev, the interim head coach of CSKA said he had not heard about Bruzgalov leaving CSKA. He continued that it was planned for Bryz to skip the game against Moscow Dynamo because he had upper body injury in the game vs. St. Petersburg SKA.

Update from our field reporter Emily:

From their long road trip, I think after the game in Khabarovsk. The shirt looks like it could a new Ovi8 logo (for his Nike gear), and ... OMG that's Maria's Olympic Tennis towel.

I think what Ovi is saying is that he wants to ring in the New Year with Maria. ;) She's due to leave soon for the Australian Open. I think it will be quite hard for them to be apart.

Ovechkin already made several new commercials with Gillette

Our blog has previously reported about new Ovechkin's deal with Gillete starting in 2013. According to Sports Business Daily, the deal goes through 2014, the year of Sochi-14 winter Olympics. Turned out Ovechkin has already made several commercials and we will see them very soon. IMG Senior VP & Managing Director David Abrutyn (who followes our blog on twitter) said that NHL lockout and Ovechkin playing in Russia didn't affect Gillette's decision to re-sign Alex Ovechkin, "There was no worry at all. His popularity in Russia is really increasing."

Backstrom is "ok".

According to SportBox.ru, the Moscow Dynamo forward Nicklas Backstrom was injured in the game vs Bratislava Slovan.

The forward awkwardly hit the boards in the second period after which he did not return. The white'n'blue doctor Valery Konov said that the Swede had bruised neck. As it was clarified by Sportbox.ru further examination after the game showed no serious damage. At the moment the injury doesn't seem to be dangerous and most likely Backstrom will play in the next game against Praha Lev.

In this season Backstrom played 18 games and scored 25 (10+15) points.

Update Dec. 28, 2012:
The Moscow Dynamo forward Nicklas Backstrom, who injured his neck in a regular season KHL game against Slovan, contrary to expectations did not have enough time to recover for today's game today vs. Lev, reports Sportbox.ru.

On Wednesday 25-year-old Swede awkwardly hit the boards in the second period and did not appear on the ice again.

Dynamo - Lev game will be held today starting at 7:30pm Moscow time.

Ovechkin scores again vs Slovan

Ovi's goal, starts @1:07.

Ovi evens the score against Bratislava Slovan, 1-1, at 17:31 in the first period.

Dynamo wins in shootout where Gynge scores twice 2-1.

Malin ‏@Rabiesmalin:

Bäckström got hit from behind 8 minutes into the second and landed awkwardly into the boards. He did skate off on his own though.

Unshaved Ovi no more

That's right, you won't have a chance to see unshaved Ovechkin in 2013. Kudos to David Abrutin and IMG, not quite close to Sharapova, but we are getting there. :-)

Dec. 25, 2012. Gillette announced today the signing of a new contract with Russian and world hockey star Alexander Ovechkin, thereby continuing the successful partnership started in 2010.

The athlete will act as an international ambassador of Gillette, the world leader in shaving and grooming for men.

Gillette's ad campaign with Alexander Ovechkin was a great success in the past, and the resumption of cooperation was a logical extension of this partnership. Alexander's confidence in victory, his ambition and courage accurately reflect the nature of the brand, and his outstanding athletic achievements show that for those who have taken a successful start, nothing is impossible. Gillette is hoping for brilliant victories and joint projects in the future sports season starting in 2013, and believes that Alexander Ovechkin is capable to achieve new heights.

Alena Strygina, the brand manager for Gillette: "We love Alexander looks and the incredible success he achieves in his career. Our opinion without a doubt is shared by many. Alexander is a great example to follow, and we are honored to continue working with him. He embodies the core values of Gillette, the leadership, the will to win and an incredible sense of purpose."

Advertising campaign with Alexander Ovechkin will start in January 2013 in Russia with the support of a new collection of Gillette Fusion ProGlide and Gillette Fusion Styler. The campaign includes television commercials, advertisements in the press, online and at the point of sale. It is also planned to continue a number of social projects to support youth sport.

Alex Ovechkin: Older and wiser?

Here we go, another interview with Ovechkin by Pro Sport magazine. Enjoy it and have a very Merry Christmas!

While you are in Russia, how often do you receive calls from the United States?
I periodically talk to friends.

Are they the hockey players?
No. Someone owns car tuning business, someone - a bar and restaurant, someone - a night club.

How many missed calls your phone can collect?
I usually answer, but don't answer to unknown numbers.

Why?
They start calling and asking about meetings and autographs.

Some people saw you at the fast food while on vacation.
I go to McDonald's with pleasure. Yesterday, for example, we were at the "Mac" on Leningrad highway, where I live nearby. And in America I go too sometimes.

Sergei Fedorov said that if there won't be any other food, he would remove the bread from the burger and eat only the meat.
Well, no, I don't take out the bread. Conversely, I would only eat with the bread.

How long can you live without exercise?
Three or four weeks. Immediately after the World Cup I took a break, only played tennis. When I was at Roland Garros, I was at the court for an hour and a half. Otherwise I rest. And then you start to run, skate a bit. When you don't train you realize that you are getting out of the form, and you start thinking what to do to get to sweat. Every day without training feels worse and you understand that it will be even more difficult to start training. Your body is relaxing, you are getting out of shape, and you can't put off for long a day when you'll start training.

Who is the best hockey player in the world?
Malkin.

Then it was hard to say so unequivocally.

And were you the best hockey player in the world?
I'm one of the best players in the world now.

What about "the best"?
I was. I won the title of MVP, which is awarded by the players vote, that's why it is very objective. I had it for three years in a row.

You are an advisor to Dynamo president. What do you advise?
I advised to Znarok to take one player to our second team. This player was drafted by the NHL, but he didn't play for the year because he was injured. I know this guy and his potential. And on the first team I was asked how to implement the power play, it was a year ago. I advised on one PP set-up.

You were at Evgeny Kuznetsov's wedding in Chelyabinsk. Did he try to scare you with his neighborhood? (Apparently Kuznetsov grew up in rough neighborhood - tj)
We were out of town.

Didn't you try to persuade him to go to the NHL, to your Washington Capitals team?
What does it mean to persuade? I just told him that it would be better to go to the NHL. That the team is waiting for him. And that his level of skill there will get better faster than here.

Did you understand his choice to stay with Tractor?
No.

Did you tell him that?
I think he knows.

Have you talked to him since?
Of course. I told him how I see the situation. It's his choice, he and I have a good friendly relationship, but, again, I did not understand his choice. I think he's outgrown the KHL and he needs to move on.

Was Ilya Bryzgalov right when he called Kuznetsov's choice in favor of KHL, a young hockey player trade of sporting ambitions for the money?
He is right in something, he is wrong in something. All cases are different. As for Kuzya, he should've choose America. Even if something suddenly could not work out, he could quietly return to Russia and would be on the same role and money that he has now. I think he will get aware of it in a year. He will realize that he needs to go to the NHL, but he will have to stay another year because he would still be under the contract with Tractor.

Will one year be enough to understand?
Perhaps it will even happen before that.

In 2005 you were close to sign a contract with Avanguard. Could this slow down to your development?
I signed the contract with Omsk and could stay there for two years, could make a lot of money. But I took the risk, and not knowing what kind of team Washington Capitals was, went there. This is how I got all that I have now. It was a good move on my part. My relatives wanted me to stay in Russia. Of course, money is a huge factor. But I decided to go. And I listened to no one, neither parents nor the agents or coaches.

In general I can understand Kuznetsov. For 20 years old he has a alot of injuries. He hasn't earned anything in particularly by playing hockey. And why would he risk going to the NHL? Now in Russia he signed his first contract, which will provide enough money for his family for many years.
I do not deny it, going to the NHL has some risk involved.

Did you have the same situation?
Yes. It's just if you want to go forward, if you want to be known all over the world, of course you must go. There you have to work hard to earn a contract.

Could you get the money in Omsk that would ensure your family?
Even in Dynamo I already earned at that time the money that could provide me for many years. Omsk offered me even more money, this is no secret, but I went to the NHL.

When was the last time you were approached by a stranger with the business proposal?
Today.

Did you deny the proposal?
I don't know. I'll have to meet again. In fact it I know this person, but not very close. I know him, say, like a photographer who took my pictures. We've just met before.

60% of NBA players after their career is over get bankrupt. Do you think it's in part because of such business proposals?
I think they get bankrupt because they buy 45 cars, 55 homes, have 12 wives and 44 children. If after that they still have money, they invest it in the wrong places.

Where will you live after you finish your career?
It will all depend on the family. I'm comfortable there, I'm comfortable here. Over there everything is calm and balanced. But I always think about home. Russia is the first place where I want to live. But when I look at my friends, hockey players, I see that their families, their children live in America. Because there it is much safer for children.

Do you feel that here is less safe?
For me it's all right. But for the children... When you see people accelerate to 120 km/h in 10 meters, and then start to break, this is very dangerous. This happens at the corners, in the alleys. There are a lot of drunk people on the streets, I've never seen this in America. It is dangerous. I drive up to the house, park the car, and in close a drunken company rings their bottles. And you never know what they might decide to do.

Ovechkin on Russian "Central TV" channel

From our senior investigative correspondent Emily...

Just found this awesome Russian teevee feature on Ovi.

It's got the works - a live sheep, lots o' home movies of Ovi as a kid, and Maria looking more or less radiant.

Too much Mama and Papa, but I s'pose they're a package deal.

Also, not enough Nicky.

Enjoy and happy holidays!

Reporting live,

Emily

Q.: When you look at this sheep which celebrity comes in mind?
A: Alex Ovechkin
(If you don't know yet, the root of Ovi's name is SHEEP or OVEJA from Latin which got into Russian language - tj)

it continues with 7 years old little Ovi running with a bike towards his Mom. She warns him, "Watch out, there's a car behind." They are showing their blue Russian-made car Zhiguli and small log house, so called dacha, a getaway house in the country.

Next they are showing Ovi's expensive car, calling him a millionaire. His Dad guides us though Ovi's new house in DC. The talk show person says that there are 20 years between these two events.

Another piece is Ovi with his family on the beach at the Malta resort. Little Ovi is mad cause Mom didn't get him ice-cream he wanted. He answers to "How are you?" question with "Picayune!" (ЕРУНДОВО). This is where his Dad jokingly calls him "Alexander Ovechkin, the NHL player".

Next... Ovi's first day ever at school and his Mom tries to wake him up in the morning...

They have a new kitten called Tyson.

So what else Ovi, a.k.a Oveja, said there? He sez that he didn't have any sexual relationship hasn't made a proposal to Maria yet.

His dad, Mikhail Ovechkin, is more straight, he wants little Ovechkins:
Дай Бог, чтобы у них все было хорошо, чтобы они пришли к решению расписаться, обручиться и принесли нам "маленьких Овечкиных".

God help that everything will be good for them, that they come to the decision to get married, get engaged and bring us "little Ovechkins".
The couple doesn't rush with such a big decision, but they have been living together.

"Sasha often praises me and says I'm a good cook. Most of all he loves borsch, mushroom soup, meatballs with mashed potatoes. I make oatmeal in the morning for him, though he is not used to have breakfast in the morning, and now he likes it," told Maria Kirilenko once again confirming the folk's wisdom: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

Dynamo 3, Amur 1.

Alexander Ovechkin scored an awesome solo goal on the 37th minute (starts @0:40). He went on the left wing, beat two opponents and shot the puck into the right corner.

Ovechkin gave a post game interview where he said that he was pleased how his team had played considering different time zones.

"We woke up at 5 am Moscow time and it's hard to play this early, very strange. But we managed to play well in defense. Yes, there were a lot of unnecessary penalties, but the team won and we are in a good mood going home. We were a bit upset letting them score one goal at the end, we wanted a shutout for our goalie, it's good for their psychic, especially for the young. Of course, we're upset."

Goals:
0-1. Kasyanchuk, 14:25
0-2. Ovechkin (Boykov, Backstrom), 36:21
0-3. Kokarev (K.Volkov, Gorokhov), 44:25
1-3. Gusev (Hyutenen, Lahti), 59:54

Ovechkin: At the moment glad that the world didn't end.

Ovechkin and company are warming up before the game

Goals:

Soin - 4 (Schadilov), 22:38 (2:2).
Backstrom - 10 (Ovechkin), 39:43 (2:3 PP).
Ovechkin - 15 (Komarov, Backstrom), 52:01 (2:4).

Alexander Ovechkin shared his impressions of the KHL game against Novokuznetsk Metallurg (4-2) with Sportbox.ru.

"We didn't start well, allowed the opponent to score two goals in the first period. But then we scored on power play twice taking the lead. And when the score was 3-2 in our favor we played defense first. In some of the previous games we were losing the lead and this time we paid more attention to protecting it the last minutes. I believe we accomplish what our coach asked us to do and deserved the three points," said Ovechkin.

What can you say about your opponent?
"Metallurg has the guys who can be very creating in offense. But still I think that they are playing with defense first in mind."

Do you have any news from overseas about the lockout?
"Haven't heard anything new. At the moment glad that the world didn't end. Let's see what will happen next."

Ovechkin, Backstrom score, but Sibir wins in SO

@LKomarov Leo Komarov

day2 pregame meal

Sibir (Siberia) was able to score two goals and eventually win in shootout while being behind 1-3 with 1 minute left in regulation. Both Ovechkin and Backstrom scored in regulation, but not in shootout.

0:0 Shootout by #11 Richard Gynge (Dynamo) vs #35 Jeff Glass (Sibir). Save.
0:0 Shootout by #26 Jonas Enlund (Sibir) vs #39 Alexander Sharychenkov (Dynamo). Save.

1:0 Shootout by #44 Arturs Kulda (Sibir) vs #39 Alexander Sharychenkov (Dynamo). Goal.
1:0 Shootout by #32 Alexander Ovechkin (Dynamo) vs #35 Jeff Glass (Sibir). Save.

 Sibir (Novosibirsk) - Dynamo (Moscow) - 4:3 SO (0:1, 0:1, 3:1, 0:0, 1:0)
Goals:
 Ovechkin - 14 (Solovyov), 3:22 (0-1).
 Knyazev - 2 (Soin), 35:41 (0:2).
 Novels - 1 (Kopeikin Kudroch), 47:30 (1:2).
 Backstrom - 9 (Komarov), 53:03 (1:3 PP).
 Lehterya - 10 (Enlund, Kudroch), 58:57 (2:3).
 Lekomtsev - 3 (Lehterya), 59:38 (3:3).

Moscow Dynamo forward Alexander Ovechkin after the game with Sibir" (3:4 SO) stressed that the white'n'blue should've end the meeting with a victory, reports from Novosibirsk correspondent "SE" Andrei Vereshchagin.
"I think we are the ones to blame for two lost points," said Ovechkin. "We allowed Sibir to seize the advantage when the score was 3-1, you can't do that, especially in our own zone. We are to blame for the second goal... We need to forget this loss, but should work on eliminating the errors. Probably all of us, including our line, in the case when we are leading in the third period, should think about saving the winning score. It is very upsetting, for the most part we played our game and played well. But sometimes playing well is not enough."

How did you personally feel playing after the First Channel Cup?
I felt great. Crowded stands, great atmosphere, awesome ice... However, it was pretty chilly.

Did you freeze?
Of course, when it is -40C (-40F) outside or what it is there now? You can feel it. It's easy for you, you all wear fur cap while standing...

Have you ever experienced the freeze when it was that cold?
Yes. But not to be that cold at the stadium, I have never had it in my career!

Has anything changed here in Novosibirsk since your last visit?
I vaguely remember it, it was a long time ago. I remember that the locker room was at another place. Well, and it was not that cold.

Head coach on Ovechkin: "Happy, but expected more"

After the final game of the Eurotour 2012 First Channel Cup against Finland (3-1) the head coach of Russia Zinetula Bilyaletdinov was happy with the play of Alex Ovechkin, but did not hid the fact that he was expecting more from the line of Alexander Ovechkin, Alexei Tereshchenko and Nikolai Zherdev, especially in the offensive part, reports SE correspondent Artem Agapov.

What can you say about Alex Ovechkin in this tournament?
Bilyaletdinov: I am happy with Sasha. With what you did not see or did not notice, I think he's good. Maybe he was not so sharp in offense at times, but he did his job. He was good in terms of restructuring, done some very useful things.

Can you evaluate the whole line of Tereshchenko, Zherdev and Ovechkin
Shall we say I was expecting a little more, especially in offense. They have not scored and I think they could have played better. Perhaps we could say that they were playing for the first time together. Although Tereshchenko and Zherdev had already played together. Something, perhaps, did not work. I think they should play better.

What can you say? Ovi is still great, but no longer a sniper. Lat's face it, the thrill is gone.

Ovechkin opens score vs CSKA on PP

Dynamo beats CSKA 6-4. Ovechkin had goal and assist. Backstrom scored the last goal for Dynamo making it 6-4.

Uploaded by @pLysenkov
Ovi was asked how it happened that Dynamo scored 5-0 and then in the third let 4 goals by CSKA (5-4) (Datsyuk scored 2 and Radilov 1) Ovi: We were prepared really well for the game and that's why we scored 5. In the third we relaxed a bit and they scored.

Second part of the interview was about forward Mikhail Anisin. You have seen him in that video when the pipe with hot water bursted in the hotel room. So what happened?

Anisin was on injured reserve and GM and head coach asked him to go play for the farm club for a game or two to get in shape. He refused and then went on the media badmouthing and calling names both GM and Head Coach. After that there was a team meeting where both alternate captains, Gorovikov and Ovechkin, voted to oust him from the team. Basically Anisin already asked for a trade and Ovi says that Anisin is gone. Ovi continues that the team is above individual, and even if it is your friend [he was Ovechkin's roommate on the road - tj]

Team's photo

Thursday was team photo day, Ovi seems to be in a pretty good mood. He is not wearing the captain's C but is clearly given dominant positioning between captain Babenko and the coach. Ovi is modeling his new Dynamo blue gloves, but you can still see the red Caps undershirt peeking through. The cutie pie who is clowning around in the middle is RW Leo Komarov, who is lethal on the Ovi-Backis line. Speaking of Backis, you can see him joining the far left of the group near the end of the clip.

Thanks, Emily.

So what Ovi said in this video? Not too much...
Ovi:
Hello to die-hard fans,
You will have a chance to see how team's photo will be made.
Tomorrow we will be playing against CSKA.
That's it. I have to go.
Just to remind you, CSKA has a very strong top line, Radulov - Datsyuk - Grabovsky.

Ovechkin denies he gave the interview about "his soul's with Capitals".

Well, things are getting more interesting very day. Ovi says that interview was fabricated. I wish he could say, I didn't give an interview, but it's true, my heart and soul is with Washington Capitals.

Alexander Ovechkin, who had a primary assist in the victorious game vs. Locomotive (3-1), said that so far he did not receive any news from overseas, in spite of some progress in negotiations between the union and the NHL over the collective bargaining agreement, reports from Luzhniki SE correspondent Michael Zislis.

How do you feel about the rumors of the imminent end of the lockout?
Guys, I do not know anything specific. I haven't heard any new development in the negotiations. There are still no news from overseas so far.

In a recent interview you said that you would like to come back to North America as soon as possible.
I did not give this interview. Press Attaché of the club called the newspaper and tried to investigate how it could happen. As for my "desire" to return, I have already said it three hundred times on this subject. Now I am going to tell you about it three hundred and first time. So far there is no progress in the negotiations across the ocean and I stay with Dynamo. In recent days, however, I haven't made any calls to America. There were negotiations yesterday and today. We'll see what will come out of it.

So will you definitely play on Friday against CSKA?
I am not ready to say it. Well, even if tonight the agreement will be reached, I still need to figure out on what conditions. It's not just fifteen players and five owners gather together, talked for six hours and said "yes." The outcome should be accepted by the league and the union. This is not a quick process.

CSKA is seriously preparing for a game against you, have you already thought about Friday's game?
No, today we thought about Locomotive only. We didn't have time to think about the game against CSKA.

Ovechkin introdices Nike Sportswear Holiday 2012 collection.

The world hockey star, team Russia's forward Alexander Ovechkin told about his plans for the future and his love for sports cars and colors of victory, and introduced winter collection of insulated clothing by Nike Sportswear Holiday 2012.

The men's collection of Nike Sportswear Holiday 2012 includes light and warm down jackets filled with goose down, and shoes with the popular in this season the waterproof leather and thick elements that grip providing a better stability.

Alex Ovechkin:

My name is Alexander Ovechkin. I am an athlete, play hockey.

I play in America for Washington Capitals, this is the NHL team and I also play for Russian national team.

Hockey is my life, success and the future.

My favorite colors are blue, light blue, I like more bright colors because life is bright.

I drive the car as fast as I can, I run as fast as I can, and I think speed is the meaning of my life and of my success.
...hmmm Good to hear for Caps fans that Ovi plays for Capitals first, for national team second, and no mentioning of his alumni Dynamo team. It probably was filmed before the lockout.

Ovechkin: My heart and soul is with Washington Capitals

Igor Fein, the journalist of vmdaily.ru, got a surprising interview with Alex Ovechkin in Moscow. Here are some excerpts...

The reason for the interview with a hockey star Alexander Ovechkin was him saying that the Russian championship gave him some unpleasant surprises though he had previously said he was glad to arrive home.

Knowing Sasha Ovechkin, or, as he is called in the NHL, Ovie, I assumed that this conversation won't happen, but Ovechkin agreed for interview.

What do you not like in our hockey, Alexander?
The most annoying thing is almost complete lack of interest in hockey in Moscow, especially noticeable after sold out arena in St. Petersburg, not to mention other cities. For example, our game with CSKA was attended by fewer people than a basketball game CSKA - Zalgiris. And the difference was enormous, three thousand spectators less than watching "Gullivers". We had around six thousand, the basketball game almost ten.

In addition, it is unclear why such stars and supposedly favorite players of our the country, as Alexei Yashin, Slava Kozlov, are not used as much as they could be? Unclear situation with a classy goalkeeper Ilya Bryzgalov, the dismissal of SKA St. Petersburg coach Milos Rzhiga. This is probably the kind of world record with a "minus" in front.

So once the lockout will be over, will you return to the NHL as soon as possible?
Certainly. I am very comfortable in Moscow, Russia in general, but my soul is across the ocean, in the NHL, with Washington Capitals, with whom I still hope to win the Stanley Cup.

Alas, every week, even every day and hour, the hope that the NHL lockout will be solved, is decreasing.

But at first you said that you are very happy at home...
Well, if we keep in mind some of the nuances.
First of all, I was able to celebrate my birthday at home in September for the first time in many years. And we celebrated it quietly, calmly, without any decorations, without no photo shoots on Twitter and Facebook, no pop stars. Only close friends, mom, dad, brother. We had traditional shashlyki (barbecue) at our dacha in the country, the weather was nice and quiet chill-out. The last time I had such a thrill was in 2004, when I turned 19. And today I am 27 years old!
Secondly, I celebrated my mother's birthday on November 21. And, finally, there was hope that our union leader Donald Fehr will withstand the pressure of the opponents and protect the players. Money for me is not the most important thing, but why should I feed the bosses of the NHL and clubs with sweat and blood-earned dollars?
